Halfway in
and halfway out of the light.
Or, is it the dark?
The rhythm of Africa
pounds in my blood.
I am not confused.
The confusion lies
With those outside.
I know who I am.
You are neither one, they say
As they slide their eyes away
'Multi' and 'Bi' do not apply.
I am your sister!, my soul cries
I am YOURS! I am! Acknowledge me!
My fair skin won't set me free;
It's nothing more than the middle ground
Between dark and light
Silence and sound
"Juneteenth" for me, can never be
Til my own people set me free.
