When I wrote “Rebel,” I was reflecting on my early teenage years. I had no idea where I was going or who I wanted to be, and so I developed a very cynical, nonconformist attitude and started hanging out with the popular girls. Looking back on that period of time as an adult, I’m infinities more self-aware and secure. I have friends who care about me and I don’t need gimmicks to get attention. That’s the place that I was in when I wrote “Rebel”: a place where you’ve experimented and made mistakes, but now you’re utterly confident that the life you’re living is the absolute best-case scenario.*
