When I wrote The Wonderful One, I was thinking about the Oneness, the single perfect Spirit shared by every human being forever. I was also thinking how my wife and I have helped each other grow toward that realization through both good times and, especially, through the difficult blows that life has brought us. Finally, it occurred to me to use the physical union of two lovers as a symbol of the Spiritual Oneness toward which we had grown.
