Unsung was written at a time I felt I needed to refrain from using the N word. As a result, I turned it into something I hope others will read and do the same. Unsung is also a poem in my book Bulletproof Rose 2010

Unsung

SOUND BROKE THE BARRIER OF MY ANCESTORS' SONG
FOR IT TO DISAPPEAR AND NEVER BE SUNG
OH, HOW IT STAINS THE TONGUE OF SOME
HEADS SWUNG, BRANCHES FLUNG, DARKNESS COVERED THE SUN
A STORM HAD BEGUN
THE BLOOD, THE BATTLE, THE FEARS
THE TRIUMPH, THE VICTORY, THE TEARS
TO DIVIDE US FOR YEARS
YOUR FOOTSTEPS HAVE SUNKEN IN THE FIELDS
OF THE CREATORS FEAR
GIVEN THIS NAME
TO KEEP US IN REAR
NO WORD FOR A FRIEND
EVEN ADDING A VOWEL TO THE END TO PRETEND
TIRED OF THE EXCUSES
READY TO UNHOOK THE NOOSES
BLOW THE FUSES
CAUSE IT'S USELESS
FURIOUS WHEN IT'S SPOKEN BY SOMEONE OTHER THAN YOUR OWN
READY FOR WAR BATTLE DOME
SPEAK TO EACH OTHER HIGHLY LIKE THOSE ON THRONES
WRITING THIS NOT ONLY FOR YOU TO LISTEN
BUT TO REMEMBER THE REASON FOR ITS EXISTENCE
